Heidi & Finn Modern Wears For Kids

Last week I posted about the cute little coat from Heidi & Finn I made for The Boss, here.  Well, the coat is still a little big on the girl, so I grabbed my niece and my camera and went to work.  Look how cute she is!  I was tempted to just give it to her, but since the hubby gets on to me about doing things for The Boss and never using them I have to keep it for her to grow into.  I think it will fit perfectly next year.

The Boss doesn't walk yet so I am not very good at shooting a moving target!

Don't forget to take advantage of the buy two get one free from Heidi and Finn's Etsy shop.   In order to cash in on this deal you need to purchase any two patterns in the shop and mention the code B2G1CHEEKYD along with the free pattern of your choice in the 'note to seller' section when checking out. This offer expires on Thursday so act fast!

*Please Note: You only need to purchase 2 patterns, and NOT to purchase the free pattern, just let Heidi and Finn know what free one you would like in notes to the seller.  This offer is good for any patterns listed in the shop (excluding the package deals and the comfy yoga suit).

30 Day Challenge...I'm In!

While checking out some of the other "I Spy" links I came across a cute blog called Momma Bird.  Like many of the rest of us she started her blog to keep in touch with family but it has become an outlet for her life long adventure of being a Mommy.  She posted a 30 day challenge today and since this has been on my "To Do" list for quite sometime now I am joining!  By joining I am making myself accountable.  Thirty days takes me from today, to The Boss' first birthday party.  Perfect timing right?  Rock hard abs and beautiful triceps one year after Baby Girl was born...okay maybe not but on the right path at least right?

So...here's the Challenge...
What: 100 sit-ups & push ups**
When: Daily (switch between the two - basically sit ups one day, the next is push ups)
Why: You want to stay fit
Where: In your own home
**the 100 sit-ups & push ups can be done throughout the day, just so long as you complete the 100!

Great idea Michelle.  I'm so excited!  Who's in?  Join us by linking in on her blog or leaving me a comment.  With summer on it's way who can risk not joining!

I Spy....

This is my second week playing "I Spy..." with Little Miss Momma and Friends.  I hope you enjoy a look at a few of my favourite pairs of shoes and my go to jewelry.

I spy, wedding shoes purchased at Aldo chosen because they looked like a piece of art.

I spy two pairs of Aldo pumps, that seemed like a good idea at the time, but definitely need to be reserved for date night only.  I've tried carrying The Boss in these and I nearly tipped over.

I spy a much better shoe choice when travelling with a one year old.  Thanks Forever 21!

I spy my new favourite pair of flops and a reason to get a pedicure *cough* Mother's Day *cough*.

I Spy, our puppy (we no longer have him...sniff, sniff) appreciating fashion from Payless.

I spy boots to keep me warm and ad some sass.

I spy my favourite watch from Fossil.

I Spy, a ring by none other than our favourite blogger Little Miss Momma herself.

I spy my Tiffany collection.  Including my charm bracelet that is waiting for an "It's a Girl" charm, promised to me as a bribe when Mr. D wanted to find out the gender of The Boss.

I spy jewelry that means the world to me.  The first is from Italy, my Bestie brought it home for me.  The second is from an artisan in Africa, my Dad brought it home from his well digging extravaganza.  The third is pearls my cousin bought for me for being in her wedding.

I spy my favourite piece, my wedding rings from my Man!  I know terrible picture but they say the very best engagement rings are impossible to photograph!

I spy my everyday reminder of my Man's love.  Tiffany Notes I Love You Ring.  Again terrible picture, I dream of a new camera one day.

I spy my go to earrings.  Pearls or Cubic Zircons.

You Know You're a Mom When...{Brushing Your Teeth}

You know you're a mom when...

You're so tired when you go to brush your teeth,
that you don't notice you're using your son's Thomas the Tank Engine toothbrush,
until you put it back in the medicine cabinet.

Yes I did that last night.

Paused and stared at it for a minute after I realized what I did.
Then shrugged and went to bed.

Royal Wedding

With the Royal Wedding just around the corner the media is in a total frenzy reporting live from Britain.  While I am just as excited as the next person to see the gorgeous gown and the over the top decor I can't help but feel sorry for Kate and William approaching their big day.  As I think back on my wedding and all the festivities leading up to it I cannot even begin to image the added pressure of virtually the entire world watching me.

I can only imagine it is many girls dream's to marry the heir to the thrown, but I wonder how many people actually sit back and think about what exactly that means.

I wonder...

Did William and Kate choose the guest list or were told who would be attending?

Did Kate have a lingerie shower with her girlfriends celebrating her marriage and talking about her upcoming honeymoon?

Did Kate visit bridal stores with her Mom and girlfriends and try on dresses or does she have to wear something custom?

Did William and Kate get any say on the marriage service or is it all chosen for them?

When you don't register for gifts, and you have very little influence on where you live and how your everyday life will pan out...how do you build a life as a couple?

I loved my wedding...

I loved my dress,
I loved my shoes,
I loved  my flowers,
I loved our guests.

I loved our church,
I loved our venue,
I loved the size of our guest list,
I loved the intimacy of the event.

I loved our decor,
I loved our mini cakes,
I loved my caterer,
I loved our mid-night dessert buffet.

But Most of all I loved my groom,  and fleeing to Mexico for a week the next day.

Weekend Fun

I loved having my hubby home for Good Friday. That one day makes a huge difference in the amount of family time we get to enjoy.  We love getting out of the house and taking The Boss on fun adventures, so this weekend we took her to the All About Pets Show in Toronto.  The Boss LOVES cats and dogs so we thought she would enjoy this show.

We made it to Toronto in time to catch the Big Air show where the dogs leap off a dock into the water to fetch a toy.  We also got to watch the agility show, where the dogs showed off their training and athleticism.  The Boss went crazy.  I snapped this pictures while she was focused on the "Daddy's" ...hahah poor Mr. D.  Daddy...Doggy same thing right?

What did you do this weekend?

Happy Easter

Matthew 28: 1-8

Jesus Has Risen
1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

Modern Kids Wear

One thing I love as much as I love baby girl headbands is modern kids wear.  I love shopping with The Boss and finding her unique items.  One afternoon while The Boss was napping I continued my shopping from the comfort of my couch and came across this awesome shop on Etsy, Heidi and Finn Modern Wears for Kids, that offered adorable patterns for kids. Heidi and Finn offers Modern Kids Wear both in pattern form and in one of a kind completed form at their studio shop.   Another thing that I love about them is they are Canadian and practically my neighbour.

I LOVED pretty much every pattern she offered but being fairly new to sewing I put it off.  I have shown this site to a couple of my of my friends and they said if you try something let me know.  So girls...this is me letting you know.  I tried it and it was EASY.  Let me define easy...it was easy like I could do it.  I am, for the most part, a self taught sewer.  My Nana helped me make an apron for my Mom when I was like 10, but other than that when I have a sewing project (like The Boss' bumper pads) I head to my Nana's and she generally takes over and does it for me, because she can't stand watching me make a mess of my project.

Here is my finished product!

Back to this being easy...when you order a pattern from Heidi and Finn it is sent to you electronically as a PDF the first half of the package is step by step instructions (including colour photos) and the second section is the pattern.  I followed the package step by step and was thrilled with how it worked out well.  For someone self-taught I was shocked.  It looks exactly how it is supposed to look and probably took me about 3 hours max.  I contacted them before I even started the pattern and they were able to recommend some fabric stores in my area.  How nice of them is that?  I don't love the colours I choose, but I blame that mainly on the lighting at the fabric store I went to.  Mr. D hates when The Boss wears blue, so I think I might try this same coat again in Khaki?  But that's how easy it was...so easy that I would make a second one, just because I can.

Now that you love them as much as I do I have a little treat for you!  Heidi and Finn are offering Cheeky D in Heels readers a Buy 2 Get 1 Free Discount.  It's valid for 2 weeks from the date of this post. In order to cash in on this deal you need to purchase any two patterns in the shop and mention the code B2G1CHEEKYD along with the free pattern of your choice in the 'note to seller' section when checking out.  You can also follow their blog for new patterns and updates.

*Please Note: You only need to purchase 2 patterns, and NOT to purchase the free pattern, just let Heidi and Finn know what free one you would like in notes to the seller.  This offer is good for any patterns listed in the shop (excluding the package deals and the comfy yoga suit).

I Spy....

Ashley, over at Little Miss Momma is doing a cute series called "I Spy".  Remember this game from when we were little?  She picks a theme each week and invites her readers/fellow bloggers to link up.  This is my first time linking up.

I SPY: Around the Home

I Spy...

I spy my favourite place in our house...get your minds out of the gutter.  Every morning we put the Boss in bed with us and we eat breakfast in bed.  This time is invaluable.  I would get up at 4 in the morning to ensure we still get our morning time, and I LOVE my sleep.

I spy a growing baby.

I spy a labour of love.  One of my favourite elements in The Boss' nursery.

I spy a place where creativity reigns.  My office (how embarrassing) organized chaos if you will.

I spy a curious Boss unpacking her diaper bag.

I spy my two favourite people cuddling,

I spy the cutest family photo waiting to be hung.

You Know You're a Mom When...{Garbage}

You Know You're a Mom When...

You look in the mirror, unshowered, and say
"Wow, I look like garbage",
To which your son replies,
"But it's beautiful Garbage Mommy!"

Beth, mother of 2. Son 3 1/2, daughter 1 1/2.

I feel like this captures the unconditional love of a child so perfectly.  Even when we feel our worst they love and cuddle us.  I must say there are some day's I wouldn't cuddle myself and yet The Boss can't get enough.  We Mommies are beautiful pieces of garbage!

* Don't forget, if you have a funny Mommy moment either comment below or email me at cheekydinheels(at)gmail(dot)com and you could be featured!

Easter Centre Piece

Finally, one week before Easter, I finished my Easter centre piece.  I used a  fake plant from IKEA (I kill real ones), a picture of The Boss in her Easter dress, and a bowl from West Elm filled with my favourite Easter treat Mini Eggs.  I was happy with how it turned out, simple but cute.  When I came down for breakfast a few days ago I noticed there was something a little bit different about it.

And

I died laughing when I saw this.  Mr. D had added his own touch to the centre piece with his favourite treat.
